Mad (Wo)Men

March 29, 2011

I’ve recently gotten into the TV series Mad Men (I know, I’m extremely late to the game) and have to say that I think I love the costumes equally as much as I love the actual show. The cinched waists, modest hemlines, colorful dresses, bold lips, and immaculate hairstyles just have me itching for a day of warm sunshine that allows me to wear my modern day version of Betty Draper or Joan Holloway. Spring time beckons for playful polka dots, picnic ginghams and lightweight sweaters, all of which are seen quite frequently on my latest television obsession. Although a tad on the preppier side, I can easily imagine myself wearing each piece in this post a number of different ways in a number of different styles. Sure, that full-circle Miu Miu swing skirt (#2) paired with an oxford and lace-up tennies is perfect for a conservative day at the country club with the relatives, but becomes immediately urban chic when worn with a cropped sweater, cat eye sunglasses and pair of espadrilles (much more my style). I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, you can never go wrong with the classics, and the ladies of Mad Men have got the classically feminine look down to a T.
