Spring 2010: Y-3

September 14, 2009

I was pretty surprised by Yohji Yamamoto’s spring 2010 collection. This year, fishing nets or soccer goaly netting seemed to be the focus of Yamamoto’s designs. While they looked fantastic coming down the runway, I’m not quite convinced that those pieces will look good on someone sitting on the subway reading the morning paper. Yamamoto continued to create his impressive black silhouettes and pant suits ornamented with flags and coats of arms, but the webbed overlays seemed a bit too avant garde. When you go to that much of an extreme, it’s hard to define what is wearable fashion and what is just plain art?
