.. Flower ♣ Fields ..

August 29, 2011

Being trapped indoors all weekend due to Hurricane Irene was frustrating and a bit scary at times, but I admit I didn’t mind having an excuse to curl up on the couch eating junk food and watching back-t0-back movies. Aside from  a number of period pieces (I have a bit of an addiction) I also watched The Wizard of Oz, a childhood favorite of mine that I hadn’t seen in years.

Despite the opium references, I’ve always loved that part of the movie when team Dorothy stumbles upon the poppy field. Call me crazy but I think it’d be fun to romp around in a flower field (minus the passing out bit…), particularly one that’s color bl0cked like the tulip field in the above photo. Since this weekend was full of dreary weather and grey skies, I felt it necessary to put a bright spin on the start to this week with a colorful post in a Dorothy-esque dress. Now if I could just get the Horse of a Different Color to take me around town all week I’d be set!

Changes

April 12, 2011

I’m making some changes to Runway Hippie and won’t be able to post for *gasp* twenty four hours. I have all kinds of goodies to share with you, but just sit tight for one day and we’ll be back on track!

bisous!

Garden Party

April 11, 2011

Although I’ve lived in New York for almost three years now, there are still so many “toursity” things I still have yet to do. This past weekend my friend Erin and I crossed one of those to-dos off our list by trekking up to the Bronx to check out the Botanical Gardens and visit the much-talked-about Orchid Show. One of my favorite things about spring is seeing all the little blossoms poking out from the earth, so the thought of walking through rooms upon rooms of brightly colored flowers had my “ready for spring” mindset kicking its heels in the air. Since I knew we had a full day of adventure ahead of us, I opted for a relaxed pair of blue jeans and my favorite strappy sandals that I’ve been longing to wear ever since it became too cold to wear them.

Haute ☮ Hippie

April 8, 2011

Last week I had the pleasure of previewing the Haute Hippie F/W collection and fell madly, dangerously, wildly, passionately in LOVE with all of it. Not only have I never seen a collection that embodies my personality and style right down to the very last zipper but I’ve also never wanted an entire collection so badly in my life. No seriously, I walked out of the showroom feeling depressed because I don’t own the whole thing. It was a perfect combination of all my favorite styles and eras: 1970s hippie, 1920s flapper, bohemian chic, a little Stevie Nicks (yea, she gets her own category) all with a perfect twist of Southwestern/Native American flare. Gah! I want it all.

Anywho…

This week I got to enjoy even more Haute Hippie fabulousness at the cocktail party they held on the roof of their showroom. The space was completely tented with bits of the collection scattered about, all accented with lanterns, candles and incredible furniture (think ABC Home meets rock & roll Airstream trailer). It was a ton of fun and I loved getting to spend even more time with the collection, meet some of the designers and sip on delicious champagne and cocktails. After two weeks of Haute Hippie amazingness I have a feeling I’m going to go into withdrawals…

Style Icon: Daisy Lowe

April 7, 2011

Daisy Lowe has been one of my style inspirations for a few years now. While I immediately fell in love with her doe eyes and shaggy fringe haircut, my obsession and love for her style followed soon there after. I relate a lot to Daisy’s style actually, because I don’t think she really has a style that can be categorized and/or labeled. One day she looks elegant and feminine, another she looks like she just stepped off the back of a Harley Davidson. While there’s always a bit of an edge to Daisy’s look, she’s entirely unpredictable and you really get the vibe that when she gets dressed in the morning it’s all about what she feels like wearing and what she feels confident in. From the red carpet to Glastonbury, she always impresses me with her sartorial choices. And she definitely has me considering a shaggier haircut…

Coffee Shop Confessional

April 6, 2011

These past few days have been a bit of a nightmare. The internet in my apartment is down and seeing as how I do the majority of my work from my home, it’s been a bit stressful getting things done…needless to say I’ve been living in a local coffee shop for the past 48 hours. However, instead of surrendering to my initial desire to work in said coffee shop wearing comfy leggings and an oversized sweatshirt, I’ve decided to take full advantage and get dressed up as much as possible for these public occasions. Since it’s been progressively warmer in the city, I thought it time to shelve my staple black tights and skinny black pants, and instead grab a pair of lightweight, relaxed-fit chinos that are not only ideal for spring but perfect for days spent typing endlessly at a nearby coffee shop. As hard as it is for me to say goodbye to certain articles of clothing for the season, I have to say I’m pretty excited to work on my tan and wear some pieces that have been hiding in the back of my closet for the past six months.

Sequins and Jerseys

April 5, 2011

I’ve never really considered myself a sequin kind of girl. They’ve always felt a bit too flashy for my taste and I just never really felt like myself wearing them. However, as more and more brands continue to create sequined pieces, I can’t help but find myself drawn to their lustrous sparkle. While I can’t imagine wearing a sequined dress with flirty heels and a cute little clutch to a dinner party, I do love the idea of wearing them during the day time with more casual fabrics like jersey knits. Whoever said sparkles were only for evening attire was seriously mistaken. Here are some of my current jersey/sequin cravings.
